Mixed Meter Jazz Workshop

This workshop is part of a larger series of jazz education workshops and classes offered by the New York Jazz Workshop. This particular class focuses on strengthening the ability to play using  mixed meter and polyrythms. Studentds will work through a variety of rhythmic principles inspired by today's Jazz compositions and influenced by rhythmic concepts found in South and North Indian as well as in African music. We will work on accent points, groupings. The main focus is to strengthen inner time expanding your rhythmic language within a harmonic context. You will be presented with a comprehensive method and a variety of challenging compositions, you will write your own compositions using the rhythmic principles presented and special guests will be invited to join the workshop to share their journey through this beautiful and extensive language
